The Carnivore

Emma

It’s pitch black. She dumps the body into the lake, but it’s alright, Emma isn’t scared of the dark.

What she is scared of, is the Carnivore.

The body, now drifting in the lake, belonged to a man by the name of Marcus. He had been annoying. He had mansplained to all hell at the bar. Emma hates men like that, but the Carnivore found them even sweeter than normal.

Emma fiddles with her backpack, removing a stick of bubble gum, and pops it in her mouth. She may be scared of the Carnivore, but she also likes to watch.

Men at the gas station. Hitchhikers at the side of the road. Feeding them to the being is satisfactory. Very satisfactory.

Already, the stillness of the lake is interrupted. The Carnivore is coming.

Sirens blaze in the background, looking for the victim. This lake is not too far from the road, and by the time that the police will show up, following her trail, both Emma and the Carnivore would be gone.

Then a twig snaps behind her.

Emma spins around, and jumps back just fast enough to avoid a blow to her head.

Fucking hell. She falls backwards, landing into the water.

Shit.

The girl that stands behind her wields a baseball bat. She is standing over Emma, she draws the bat back up.

“Stop!’ Emma begs. “You have to be quiet! She is coming!”

“I’ll show you who’s coming.”

She slams the bat into her head over, and over, and over again.

Emma’s eyes go dark.

Amelia

Marcus’s body is floating in the center of the lake. Is it even a fucking lake? It’s a large pond. Amelia wasn’t exactly well versed in the kind of thing. She didn’t know who this bitch was, that thought she could dump her brother’s body in the lake. She didn’t have any clue, she didn’t care.

But the bitch had messed with the wrong family.

“Marcus!?” Amelia called out, wading out into the dark water. It was cold, and disgusting seaweed wrapped around her ankles, threatening to drag her under. Ripping through the flora, Amelia came towards the body.

How likely was it that Marcus was really dead?

She would only believe it if she saw it.

The water grew deep very quickly, and soon, Amelia was swimming through black, cool water. She grabbed Marcus’s body and began to pull it back to shore. A great shrill screech echoed across the lake.

“What the fuck is that?” Amelia’s voice rose, as she looked around. She couldn’t see anything but the full moon reflecting on the water. “Marcus!? Wake up. We gotta get out of here!”

Marcus, unfortunately did not wake up.

Amelia didn’t give up. Dragging the body to shore, she found footing in the seaweed once more, and then her brother’s body stopped moving.

She turned back. Did it get snagged on something?

Expecting to find some sort of stick or branch he had gotten stuck on, instead, Amelia found eyes. Glowing green eyes.

What. The. Fuck. Was. That.

The thing was vaguely human shaped, and yet nothing like a human at all. The mouth was too wide for its face. The eyes flashed in the dark like a cat, its hair was long and dark. The skin, unnaturally white.

It pulled Marcuses body under the water with superhuman strength.

“Help!”

Then the creature came for her. Amelia screamed, fighting as she was dragged into the deeps.
